Parish church

On the hill at the exit of Nebelschütz, a new church was built on granite rock between 1741 and 1743 according to the construction documents of the famous master builder of the Dresden court church, the Italian architect Gaetano Chiaveri. The construction of the church had become necessary because a wooden church in the cemetery in the middle of the village was completely destroyed in a major fire in 1739. Initially only Nebelschütz and Wendischbaselitz belonged to the parish. In 1765 the place Piskowitz was added. The parish has not been changed to this day.

Bells

The newly built church of Nebelschütz had 2 bells. In 1917 a bell had to be handed in to be scrapped. In 1923 the church got three new bells: Marien, Martin and Josefs bell. All 3 bells were scrapped during World War II. This was followed by the acquisition of four new bells from Apolda under Pastor Handrick. The consecration was in 1964 under Pastor Horen by Prelate Andritzky with Martins, Maria, Josef and Cecilia bells ringing. The current baroque church, which is consecrated to Saint Martin, has received some renovations in the 250 years of its existence. Thanks to the "bad planning" of a war power, it was spared from annihilation even at the end of World War II. A comprehensive interior and exterior renovation was carried out in 1993 by Pastor Michael Bresan. The roof was re-covered and the small, dilapidated tower was completely renewed. The top of the great tower is crowned by a new gold-plated sphere with the weather vane. The baroque high altar, a special beauty in our country, and the pulpit with the four evangelists have been restored and re-gilded. From a distance the church shines in the well-known Cistercian colors, in bright red and white tones. For many years now, St. Martin's Church will invite many visitors to worship or just to view it.
